Run for the Rosettes
It’s Derby time in the Bluegrass, y’all!
This is the Kentuckian holiday of holidays. We love all things bourbon + horses meaning this was a huge weekend for us at Salty Cat. Derby parties need to have the best sweets to match all of those pretty hats and mint juleps, which is where we come in. This year, we offered variety dozens of cupcakes and macarons to meet any party needs and satisfy folks of all ages because everyone loves a good party right?
For our “roses”, we offered customers a variety dozen of lemon, vanilla, and cookies & crème cupcakes. Wanting to keep it light and give just enough variety to please all the picky dessert eaters, we decided that these flavors were a good combo. This also gave people the chance to try out two of our new flavors! Of course we had to go with red rosettes decorated with gold, white, and green sprinkles keeping with our derby theme. I mean who wouldn’t want to get a garland of these bad boys? Kyle managed to get the PERFECT shade of red and they turned out beautiful.
Along with the cupcake rosettes, we wanted to offer variety dozens of macarons. All of those classy outfits and fascinators need fancy desserts to match. What could be classier than a macaron with bourbon filling? This Kentuckian says nothing. Our first flavor in the variety box had to be our Bourbon Pecan Caramel because, well that should be obvious by now. We took our bourbon pecan caramel buttercream and added a salted caramel center to really drive that flavor home. Next, we went with a classic S’mores filling to have something for everyone.
The last two flavors, we wanted to do some fillings that were fan favorites, but pretty mild. So, giving a fruity option we went with strawberry. The last macaron filling we decided on cookie dough (one of our new fillings from earlier this year!) to give a good rounded variety for folks of all ages to enjoy at Derby parties all across town.
Like last time, we can’t forget the cookies! Our first cookie recipe that we ever fell in love with was actually inspired by Derby, so we have officially come full circle with these guys. We ran specials on our Bourbon Pecan Chocolate Chip cookies for these variety box options as well and trust us, we are generous with our Woodford. They’re the perfect ode to Derby and the best way to round out this monthly special. Check out a few photos below from happy customers and their adorable party setups with our desserts!
