Mother’s Day Bouquets

Because what mom doesn’t want a cupcake bouquet to celebrate them?

Moms are the best. We have several shining examples of what a good mother should be in our lives and we seriously could not be more blessed. They’re continuously supportive of our small bakery, constantly sharing our posts and talking us up to their friends. It warms our hearts. So, when my mother-in-law reached out with a reel of a cupcake bouquet asking if we could make one for her mom, I didn’t hesitate to agree. The reel itself was incredibly simple, but I couldn’t just do the bare minimum here. Not when these lovely ladies go so far above for us.

With that thought in mind, I set out to my favorite store (Hobby Lobby) to search for cute pots and foam balls to build these pots of sweets. Having gotten some new piping tips in the mail recently, we decided to use this project as a test run for some new potential designs and boy did they not disappoint. Plus, we had a blast playing with color techniques and mixing.

To give you a rough idea of where we started with this, I bought some simple galvanized steel decorative pots and some foam balls/boards that fit inside of them. Once I had my foam pieces leveled off and covered at the bottom with green tissue paper, I began mapping out where our cupcakes would be sticking. The first one, I left more space between the cupcakes to add additional paper and fill up the “pot” more. So, this is what it looked like prior to piping out our flowers.

The cupcakes are secured in with toothpicks and I found that four per cupcake was needed to support the weight of our large buttercream flowers without anything falling off. From here, I started piping various flower designs with our new tips (124k, 125k, and 126k for those bakers interested). Once everything was set up in the fridge, I began the assembly of our final pots. I secured the decorated cupcakes onto their toothpicks and then began filling in the gaps with tissue paper and fake flowers. For the second setup, I decided to tuck the cupcakes closer together to leave minimal space between them and overall I found this version of bouquet to look much nicer as an end result. They really look like an actual bouquet even if a little more of the pot and foam ball is showing.

With the final touches added, our Mother’s Day bouquets were complete! Honestly, this is the most creative thing I have done as a baker and I can’t wait to do more. We look forward to more fun requests from our customers and our family. They like to keep us on our toes and we like to rise to the challenge.

Be on the lookout for more dessert sets coming soon!

Until next time,

-Kat & Kyle
