Sweet Succulent Cupcakes

One of the cutest baking trends has to be buttercream succulents.

My obsession with succulents is borderline unhealthy and these cute little additions to our cupcake designs are not helping. But can you blame me? They’re ridiculously adorable and think of all of the party themes they can be used for! Birthdays, baby showers, wedding showers, graduations, and celebrations all have succulent themes and we are ready to give you guys the perfect little desserts to match.

I’ve been dying to make these, so I set aside an entire weekend to mess around with different designs and color schemes to get them on our website. I couldn’t be happier with how they turned out, the colors I achieved, the new tricks I discovered, or with how well they photographed. My personal favorite of the designs has to be the desert rose with the light peach accent.

After convincing Kyle to make me a batch of buttercream while I baked some test cupcakes, I started with getting my supplies and color scheme put together. After several attempts to get the shades of succulent green that I needed, I moved on to some accent colors to add some pop to these cupcakes. I settled on a light peach, a vibrant purple, and a copper-ish orange for accents. I snagged this photo of all of my colors mixed to give an idea of where I started.

With my colors ready to go, I prepped all of my piping bags with couplers (if needed) and piping tips, then I loaded them up with icing. I moved on to prepping my cupcakes for the “sand” base that I wanted to use. I used my copper buttercream to make a thin coat of icing and then added crushed graham cracker around the edges to appear like sand in the desert. After all of the cupcakes were ready, I was ready to pipe out my adorable succulent designs. Check out the gallery below to see all of the ones we loved!

The best thing about these designs is that they can be made with so many fun colors and different bases. Instead of sand, we could have solid white bases to make them more formal or we could just use chocolate cupcakes and make them appear like little potted succulents in soil. Succulents vary in so many colors that they can match any theme making them incredibly versatile.

We can’t wait to share more artisan cupcakes like these in the future with y’all. Until next time!
